After 10 months of negotiations, United Academics, the union representing over 1,800 faculty and other academic employees at the University of Oregon, has reached a tentative agreement on a first contract with the UO administration.

The AAUP is pleased to announce that Julie Schmid will join the Association as its executive director in October. The executive director, formerly called the general secretary, heads the national office staff.

06.15.2013 | AAUP Censures Two Administrations, Removes Two from Censure

Delegates to the AAUP's Ninety-ninth Annual Meeting voted to place the administrations of Southern University, Baton Rouge and National Louis University  on the AAUP’s list of censured administrations and to remove Our Lady of Holy Cross College and St. Bonaventure University from the list. Censure by the AAUP informs the academic community that the administration of an institution has not adhered to generally recognized principles of academic freedom and tenure.

The AAUP will host its Annual Conference on the State of Higher Education and Ninety-ninth Annual Meeting on June 12–16, 2013, at the Mayflower Renaissance in Washington, DC. The highlight of the Annual Conference on the State of Higher Education will be four days of presentations by faculty members and administrators from around the country.

Faculty and staff members from colleges and universities across the U.S. met in Ohio  to address the some of the toughest issues facing student success in America’s higher education system. The CFHE gathering looked at the problems with MOOCs and other more promising ways to use online teaching tools, including “hybrid” courses already in use at many colleges.

Salaries for full-time faculty members at American colleges and universities continue to recover slowly from the ongoing recession in higher education, but the longer-term trends are not promising. That’s the finding in this year’s annual report on faculty compensation and the economics of higher education issued by the American Association of University Professors.
