10.24.2016 | AAUP to Investigate Community College of Aurora

The AAUP will formally investigate the dismissal of a part-time (adjunct) professor at the Community College of Aurora in Colorado. The investigation will examine the facts of the case to determine whether widely accepted principles of academic freedom, necessary for educational quality, have been violated.

10.20.2016 | AAUP Supports APSCUF in Struggle for Quality Education, Fair Contract

Rudy Fichtenbaum, president of the American Association of University Professors, and Howard Bunsis, chair of the AAUP Collective Bargaining Congress issued a solidarity statement supporting colleagues in Association of Pennsylvania State Colleges and University Faculties (APSCUF) in their struggle for a fair contract and ensuring quality education in Pennsylvania.

06.18.2016 | Censure and Sanction Actions

Today, delegates to the 102nd Annual Meeting of the AAUP voted to place the College of Saint Rose and the University of Missouri (Columbia) on the AAUP’s list of administrations censured for violating standards of academic freedom and tenure. The annual meeting also voted to remove from the censure list two institutions: Metropolitan Community College in Missouri and Grove City College in Pennsylvania. Grove City College had been on the censure list since 1963, longer than any other institution. 

06.13.2016 | Northern Illinois University Faculty Form Union

The new faculty union at Northern Illinois University is now certified. The United Faculty Alliance of Northern Illinois University (UFA), has broad support across campus and is made up of over 600 faculty members. They plan to bargain a first contract that will direct needed resources to the classroom.

04.29.2016 | AFI Conservatory Faculty Votes for Union

In an election this week, the vast majority of eighty-one part-time and full-time faculty at the AFI Conservatory voted to form a union for collective bargaining with the AAUP.

04.20.2016 | Faculty Votes for Union at Plymouth State University

In an election held this week, a majority of the one hundred seventy-four tenured and tenure-track faculty members at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire voted to form a union for collective bargaining with the AAUP.

04.18.2016 | Faculty Votes for Union at College of Southern Nevada

A majority of the 523 full-time faculty at the College of Southern Nevada voted to form a union with the American Association of University Professors. CSN is the largest institution of higher education in Nevada and the third community college in the state with unionized faculty.

02.29.2016 | AAUP Files Amicus Brief in Columbia University NLRB Case

The AAUP filed an amicus brief arguing that the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) should overturn its 2004 Brown University decision, because graduate assistants are employees who should have collective bargaining rights and collective bargaining rights, in fact, promote academic freedom.
