In conjunction with the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, the AAUP is seeking information from any faculty members who have had their cell phones or other electronic devices searched by US border patrol officers at the nation’s borders while traveling internationally.

John Zipp of the University of Akron AAUP chapter is the recipient of this year's Marilyn Sternberg Award. The award is given annually to the AAUP member who “best demonstrates concern for human rights, courage, persistence, political foresight, imagination, and collective bargaining skills.”

The AAUP strongly supports freedom of expression on campus and the rights of faculty and students to invite speakers of their choosing. We oppose, however, any legislation that interferes with institutional autonomy.

Today, a strong majority of graduate employees at the University of Chicago filed authorization cards to hold a union recognition election. The union will be affiliated with the AAUP, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and the American Federation of Teachers.
